The RSXC teams enjoyed a very favorable day as host Kent Island welcomed everyone for the 2012 2A East Regional Cross Country Championships. It’s has been a season of progress, and this is shown in the way the student-athletes performed at the regional meet, led by Senior Jeff Frost and Ryan Whaley, respectively.
Interestingly, of the top 5 who are scored (and the top 7 place holders) Frost and Whaley are the only two seniors on this very young squad (#3 Ian Gompers JR; #4 Kevin Alkingburg SO; #5 Joey Hurm JR; #6 Nathan Groff JR) and Frosh Phil Hurm and Connor Burkhardt already running in the high 18s, low 19s, have solidified a pretty stout 2013 squad (Seth McKweon is a SO but didn’t compete; he has consistently finished in the #5 spot).
Not to be outdone, the entire girls’ cross country team are Frosh, with Autumn Russell 15th overall, leading the pack. Helen McBee and Kiona Brady have had strong showings this year and have improved dramatically since the summer training back in the “dog days” of summer.
RSXC has much to look forward to!!!
